Why Kidblog?

In order to provide an authentic writing experience, we will be experimenting with a number of different writing platforms- one being KIDBLOGS!  I have been blogging with my students, to varying degrees, over the past 3 years.  Having experimented with several different styles and services, ages and abilities, in the end I have found tremendous success and security with Kidblogs!  Even the most reluctant and inexperienced user can eventually conquer Kidblogs’ easy and user-friendly platform.

When embarking on a successful blogging experience, in my opinion, there are just a few simple things to remember :

1. Be authentic, flaws and all!  Blogging isn’t about perfection, it’s about the journey of writing.  That said, don’t focus on the idea that it has to be perfect, your blog only has to be true to you.

2.  Embrace the process.  Some blogs will be short, some will be long, some students will write every day, others will only write a few sentences when required.  Whatever path you choose, blogging is a chance to give yourself an audience and a voice, so embrace it!

3.  Blogging is a way of strengthening your digital footprint, so be a sensible writer.  Your blog will follow you (get it- footprint?) and create a public aspect of your image as a student and a writer.  Your blog should be sensible in every sense of the word, in what you say and in how you respond to others.

How to use it…

What I love about KIDBLOGS is how easy it is!  The site is designed for K-12 students, so it appeals equally to inexperienced beginners and more experienced bloggers.  It also operates without some of the restrictions as other student-based sites, allowing students an opportunity to grow and become more creative in showcasing work as they become more comfortable.

As a beginner, students should first make sure they are visiting the right class site.  A direct link can be found on the left side panel of this website OR just remember that your URL is www.kidblog.org/(class color)hawks.  For example, www.kidblog.org/redhawks

Period 1 RED HAWKS!                     Period 2 BLUE Hawks!

 Period 5 GREEN Hawks!

Period 6 PURPLE Hawks!                Period 7 YELLOW Hawks!

Just follow these easy steps when getting started!

All passwords are the same, but remember Mrs. Long can see everything you do so be responsible!  To help you remember your password, just think: my school (UMS) and school year (2015-2016 abbreviated to 1516)!

We will discuss some of the more “complex” terms (like switching the tabs), but for now just make sure to keep it in VISUAL!

 Here’s a Helpful Video!

There’s an APP for that!
